Are DIY home test kits reliable?

Not all home test kids are reliable. Beware of DIY settling plates and spore trap air samples that are sold at large home improvement retailers or by mold consultants as they are unreliable and will not give you an accurate understanding of the health of your indoor environment. If a person wants to collect samples themselves to screen a home or building for hidden mold growth, we offer state-of-the-art PCR tests, a highly accurate DNA-based analytical method for identifying and quantifying mold species in a home, office or indoor environment.

What is a PCR Test?

PCR or Polymerase Chain Reaction is an advanced testing method to identify mold DNA. Studies have shown that this new technology is the most reliable and accurate way of screening for mold, mycotoxins, etc. in an indoor environment.

Why don’t you offer ERMI or HERTSMI-2?

We have found that mycotoxin tests provide a more accurate picture of what is going on in a home. If a Mold DNA Screen (HC45)™ is purchased which screens for 45 common and important species of mold, we can calculate a HERTMI-2 or ERMI from our results if our client requests it.

What is your standard turn around time?

Typically our turn around time is about 8 business days from the time of receiving the sample.
